# What is AWS IoT Greengrass?

{% hint style="info" %}
This page was generated from content adapted from the [AWS Developer Guide](https://github.com/awsdocs/aws-iot-greengrass-v2-developer-guide.git)
{% endhint %}

## Migrate from Version 1

* **Note**\
  AWS IoT Greengrass Version 1 no longer receives feature updates, and will receive only security patches and bug fixes until June 30, 2023. For more information, see the [AWS IoT Greengrass V1 maintenance policy](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/greengrass/v1/developerguide/maintenance-policy.html). If you use AWS IoT Greengrass V1, we strongly recommend that you migrate to AWS IoT Greengrass V2.
* **Note**\
  The AWS IoT Device SDK for JavaScript V2 doesn't currently support AWS IoT Greengrass V2. If your V1 applications use either of these features and the AWS IoT Greengrass Core SDK for Node.js, you can't run them on V2 yet.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://awsnotes.dendron.so/internet-of-things-iot/aws-iot-greengrass/common/what-is-aws-iot-greengrass.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
